An affordable approach to design
by Natalie and Justine
Interior design is often seen as luxury, assumed by many that you have to buy into a style or that it costs a lot. But it doesn’t need to be any of those things. If you get the right expert help upfront it can save you time, stress and also money.
We’re passionate about changing some of these preconceived perceptions, and making interior design accessible and affordable to anyone that’s buying/want a change in their home or running a business by helping clients make their ideas work.
Interior design can be stereotyped as being just soft furnishings such as curtains, colour and fabrics, but that’s just the icing on the cake so to speak. As with any design, successful design is only delivered when the right balance is achieved between both function and form. And it’s the same for interior design. You need to consider the space: how do you use it, how does it flow all the way through to how it feels and looks.
Getting in a designer who has the skills on structural through to decoration consideration, as well as how to best implement such works, means you can transform your home or business space with confidence, to the best use of your budget and to suit you, not a copy of what one might have seen a magazine, but a design that’s bespoke and reflects you or your brand.
Interior designers not only help you to see the full potential of your property but also explore all the options possible so you can see the vision of what your home or business can become. But many don’t take on this opportunity of getting a designer involved, thinking it’s an extra cost, something we can’t afford.
We have developed a flexible service that helps overcome the fears of doing up a home or creating the interiors for a business venture. We have a pick and mix service from start to finish so you can get a helping hand that doesn’t cost the earth. We can even pass on anything between 20-40% off retail prices when involved in the implementation part of the project, so we can save you money too!
Ultimately we want to either give clients the confidence to do it themselves, or take away the stress & time for those who just want it done. But the beauty is the client decides, so they are in control.
We help clients achieve individuality through bespoke designs that’s inspired by what our clients may pick out of a magazine or through us finding out what they like/dislike and we help them articulate their style. We work collaboratively, guide our clients, not impose. That’s really important to us. And we help clients to look design holistically so nothing is left in isolation, everything works together for a complete result.
More details about our flexible menu service will soon be on our website, but if you’d like to know please get in touch for a free consultation.
We are also setting up workshops in the London and Kent area. If you’d like more info on this, please contact natalie@barkerbourne.com. We’ll be posting more on this next week.
Now we just need a new name for interior designer as that will help change perceptions of what and how we do it…any suggestions?

Completed design for a client's bathroom, inspired by the Art Deco Era. We provided a full service from start to finish

An example of our Home Buyers Guide: For a recent client in Battersea showing them potential options of how they could make the property right for them

We then show the vision of this through illustrative sketches so they can see what the space could be like. This is all supported by practical advice too.
